Mary was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she spent most of her life. She was a gifted dancer with the New York ballet, and appeared in Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles. Mary married her high school sweetheart, George D. Hoffman, and raised seven children. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and Christian who rarely missed Mass. A beautiful lady inside and out, she carried herself with grace and was kind, considerate, selfless and strong beyond measure. She never missed acknowledging family birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays. Mary enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, playing cards and was a master of the daily crossword puzzle. Above all else, Mary loved spending time with family and friends. She retired from her career in banking and moved to her lake house, which became the hub of all family gatherings, especially in the summer to celebrate her July 4th birthday. Grandma’s house was the place for waterskiing, fishing, playing touch football out back or taking a nightly pontoon boat ride. Many Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter celebrations took place at the lake house. In the winter months, Mary enjoyed teaching dance classes to fellow snowbirds in Florida and welcomed many winter-weary family and friends from the north. She was an amazing Mom and was lovingly admired and respected by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Mary is survived by her children, their spouses and several grandchildren; Daniel (Barbara), Richard (Liesl), Mark, Dwight (Catherine), Dale, Diana, Denise Conroy (Neil), and grandchildren Ava, Colin, Renee, Ryan, Leah, Katrin, Nicole, Cole, Randi, Luke, Amanda, Sean, Matthew, Zachary. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, granddaughter Amanda, and many friends. She will be deeply missed. A Mass of Christian burial will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 9565 Musch Rd., Brighton, MI on Saturday, October 13, 2018 where visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m. A lite luncheon will follow. Mary will be laid to rest at Washtenong Memorial Park in a private family service.
