Maxine Profit

Maxine Ruth Profit (Ypsilanti, MI) passed peacefully in her home the evening of Friday, March 2, 2012 at the age of 87. Maxine was born on September 13, 1924 in Bay City, MI and married Lewis E. Profit at the Broadway Baptist Church on June 12, 1948. After graduating from CMU in 1946, Maxine taught 3rd grade in Saginaw Public Schools until retiring in 1951 when she and Lewis started a family. Together Maxine and Lewis shared a wonderful life, raising 4 children. During these years they enjoyed many wonderful times with great friends in their activities especially through the work of her husband initially at CMU and then for nearly 25 years at EMU. After leaving EMU in 1975, Lewis' career took them to Lake Superior State University. This move was followed by a move to Gladwin, MI before retiring in Winter Haven, FL. In all of these, the friendships they made provided them with a richness in life that filled them with gratitude until their passing. Following Lewis' death on February 25, 2002, Maxine began a new chapter of life which would span 10 years. She spent those years at The Sanctuary at St. Joseph's Village in Ypsilanti, MI. There she reconnected with old friends, made many new friends and enjoyed endless time with nearby family and countless visits from those afar. She is survived by her four children, Gary (wife, Patricia), Kirk (wife, Sharon), Rick (wife, Julie), and Jill; seven grandchildren, Kevin (wife, Laine), Jennifer (husband, Chris), Kristie (husband, Mike), Laura (husband, Kent), Kirk, Emma, and Gwen; and ten great- grandchildren, Cooper, Lily, Connor, Logan, Grace, Reese, Caleb, Sydney, Cassidy, and Gary; and many friends. A memorial service is planned for 2:00p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Sanctuary at St. Joseph's Village. In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation for the Lewis and Maxine Profit Memorial Fund (established in 2002 to support non-profit educational and spiritual activities in the Washtenaw County area).
