Hulett, Ralph 12/16/1924 - 1/7/2019 Ann Arbor HULETT, RALPH M. W. 12/16/1924 1/7/2019 Ralph McGregor Whitlaw Hulett, age 94, of Ann Arbor, passed on January 7. Ralph was born and raised in Flint. His parents were Edward Anson Hulett and Minnie Eda Forth. He had one brother, Wayne Edward Hulett, deceased. Ralph attended Flint public schools and graduated from Northern High School in 1942. He attended Flint Junior College for one year, then enlisted in the US Navy Reserve. The Navy sent him to the V12 program at the University of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1945 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He was discharged from the Navy when WWII ended, then admitted to the University of Michigan Medical School in 1946. He met Mary Delilah Murrah (Del), from Herrin, Illinois, in quantitative analysis class and they were married in 1947. Ralph graduated in 1950 with an MD degree and interned at the University of Michigan Hospital for one year. At that time the Army drafted him as a doctor and he and Del lived a military life for several years. Ralph served at Fort Lee, Virginia and at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. In 1953, after completing his term in the Army, he started a residency in pathology at the University of Michigan. After his residency, in 1957, he took a job at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. He was there for 18 months, then moved to Ann Arbor where he worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital until 1985, at which time he retired. In retirement, he continued working as a pathologist under the sponsorship of Project Hope, Pathologists Overseas, and the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor. He served as a pathologist in Grenada, India, St. Lucia, Kenya, Nepal and Madagascar. Ralph and Del had four children, Nancy Ann Frank (Donald), Rebecca Lee Hulett Bowling (Robert), Mary Elizabeth Hallmark (William), and James Murrah Hulett (Bethany). There are three grandchildren, Michelle, Hannah, and Brennan. Ralph was greatly saddened when Del passed in 2008. Ralph enjoyed many activities, including house repair and maintenance, caning chairs, gardening, photography, playing the piano and driving his 1913 Ford in the Ann Arbor Fourth of July parade. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed time with friends in various venues including Friends of Opera and University of Michigan Wolverine football games. Ralph was a Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor and a member of numerous medical organizations. He served as treasurer of Friends in Deed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 16 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to any of the following: First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor (Resident Ministry Program), Arbor Hospice, and Huron Valley Humane Society.
