Richard was a devoted and longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dexter, the Knights of Columbus of Ann Arbor and Dexter, as well as a member of Dexter American Legion. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Thomas Catholic High School which rooted him in a faith based love of God. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served as a radio telegraph operator and was honorably discharged after his service to his country. Richard's love of his fellow man prompted him to care for anyone who asked for his help. He worked several years at Data Machines Company as an electronic machine installer and salesman. In 1983, Richard and his wife Virginia purchased and worked a “hobby apple farm” in Dexter called Frank’s Orchard. The orchard served the Dexter community for many years with homemade apple cider and freshly picked apples. Richard enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, stain glass creations, puzzling, playing golf and was a true handyman. He was an avid U of M sports fan “Go Blue!”, and had a love of travel, especially to visit his brother and family in Leavenworth, Washington. His true joy and passion were his family, with treasured times on adventures with Virginia, to watching his grandchildren’s many sporting events and choir concerts. Simple pleasures such as sitting around a bonfire made him the happiest. Richard was a very quiet but wise man and his family could ask for no better husband, father, or grandfather.
