Robert “Bob” Griffiths passed away on December 15, 2018 at the age of 72 after a long battle with cancer. Bob was born in Fort Lewis, Washington on August 19, 1946 to Doreen (nee Macallister) and Robert Henry Griffiths, Sr. and they preceded him in death.
Bob was raised in Charleston, IL and attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN. Bob attended the University of Illinois where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Bob then moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Bob worked for many years at the General Motors Research Laboratory. Following his retirement, he was a tax preparer for H & R Block. Always an Engineer and Accountant at heart, he often referred to doing taxes as his retirement hobby.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 34yrs., Kathleen. He is also survived by sisters Margot Forsyth and Mimi Griffiths, brother Andrew Griffiths, stepmother Patricia Griffiths, nieces Kristen Micurescu, Elizabeth Forsyth, Jennifer Watkins, nephew Macallister Griffiths. His stepsister Dana, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Sue Mihal, niece Kathleen Mihal and nephews James and Daniel Mihal.
Bob enjoyed playing Golf and traveling with Kathleen. Bob was especially fond of European River Cruises and he and Kathleen saw much of Europe that way. Bob loved to take road trips throughout the US. They also enjoyed many summers with close friends on the Leelanau Peninsula in northern Michigan and Saratoga Springs, NY.
Bob was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor that stayed with him to the very end. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and so many wonderful and caring friends.
A memorial service in celebration of Bob’s life will be held at St. Mary Student Parish, Ann Arbor on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00AM. Donations suggested in lieu of flowers to Arbor Hospice or Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
