

Robert Lawrence Hayes of Ann Arbor, age 87, passed away on October 10, 2014 after an extended illness. Bob was born August 1, 1927, to Edward and Margaret Hayes in Lafayette, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his son Gregory, brother Joseph, and sister Mary. He is survived by his wife Susan, son Charles (Evy), daughter Barbara, granddaughters Margaret and Catherine, and brother John. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. In his extensive career as one of the original engineers of injection-molded plastics, he built a successful plastics business serving Detroit’s automotive industry, and supported the growth of other automotive and Detroit-based businesses. Bob enjoyed travel with Susan, family, and friends, both worldwide and 35 years of vacations on the Leelanau Peninsula. A kind and gentle man, he was known by all for his dry wit, and will be sorely missed. A celebration of his life that will take place at the Ann Arbor City Club, 1830 Washtenaw Avenue, on Saturday, October 25, 1 – 4 p.m. Those wishing to make donations in his memory are invited to do so to the Arbor Hospice, or charity of their choice.
