Rob was born October 1975, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Frederick William Mayer and Carole J. (Miller) Mayer. He attended school in Ann Arbor and was a proud graduate of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) program, a milestone that was celebrated with a graduation party he thoroughly enjoyed.
Rob embraced life with an infectious smile, a generous heart, and a joyful spirit that brightened every room he entered. His happiness could often be found in the simple pleasures such as a Cherry Coke, a trip to Uptown Coney Island or Olive Garden, and, of course, chocolate chip cookies. These little moments brought him great joy and were made even more special when shared with those he loved.
A true social butterfly, Rob cherished spending time with his friends through the Promise Group at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, the Friendship Group of Ann Arbor, and the Just-Us Club. He found purpose in serving others and proudly volunteered at the Ann Arbor YMCA folding towels, helped organize shelves at JoAnn Fabrics, and assisted at several local laundromats. In his free time, he enjoyed putting together puzzles.
Rob never met a stranger. He had an incredible gift for remembering people's names and could often tell you exactly what kind of car they drove. Rob loved going on vacation to Glen Arbor and never missed a chance to stop at Art’s Tavern.
Those left to cherish Rob's memory include his devoted mother, Carole Mayer; his brother, Bill (Christy DeBurton) Mayer; his father, Frederick (Nina) Mayer; his aunts and uncle, Betti Huddleston, Joyce Carmichael, and Herschel (Betty) Miller; his best friend, Dana Hartman; along with many extended family members, friends, caregivers, and all whose lives were touched by his kind heart and unwavering joy.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1432 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Family encourages everyone to wear their favorite University of Michigan apparel in support of Rob's love of U of M Sports.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rob's memory to The Just-Us Club, P.O. Box 2688, Ann Arbor, MI 48106.
