Robert Stephen Wisniewski, age 34, of East Grand Rapids, MI passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Rob was born to Kathy Wisniewski (Smith) and Steve Wisniewski on October 14, 1985 in Houston, TX, and moved to Grand Rapids, MI at the tender age of 10 days. As a child, Rob was best known for his daily declaration, “I’m hungry, I’m bored, I need a friend” as well as for his love of sports. He played travel ice hockey and soccer before joining varsity teams in both sports as a student at East Grand Rapids High School. After high school graduation, Rob thrived as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He excelled academically, earning a BBA in Finance & Accounting with High Distinction and a BA in Economics with Honors. Following graduation, Rob moved to New York, NY, working for a number of years on Wall Street as an equity research analyst. Despite a demanding workload, Rob found time to explore the Big Apple’s culinary scene, train for long distance running races, play recreational hockey at Chelsea Piers, and plan a trip with friends to France and Spain. He then returned to the Midwest to explore other business opportunities and to be closer to family, friends, and his favorite place: the family cottage on East Grand Traverse Bay in Williamsburg, MI.
During his life, Rob pursued and enjoyed many hobbies: he loved cooking and gardening, travel and language, cars and airplanes, as well as world history. He especially loved music; playing the guitar and attending numerous concerts and music festivals over the years. He was also an ardent fan of University of Michigan Athletics and European Premier League soccer. Friends and family admired his quick-witted, dry sense of humor and his loyalty. Rob’s many lifelong friendships, with humans and animals alike, are a testament to his kind, compassionate and humanistic nature.
Rob is cherished and remembered by his loving parents, Steve and Kathy Wisniewski, his sister/partner-in-adventure Kristy, his mischievous cat Winston, as well as by many amazing aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rob’s family welcomes friends to join them in celebrating Rob’s life on a date to be determined. Donations in Rob’s name can be made to the University of Michigan’s Center for Human Growth and Development Fund #333512 (https://tinyurl.com/utjdg9q) or to the Bissell Pet Foundation (https://www.bissellpetfoundation.org).
