Roscoe Osmond Bonisteel III, age 80, died on Sept. 20, 2023, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Bonnie, as he was known, was born on Sept. 26, 1942, the eldest son of Roscoe Osmond Bonisteel Jr. and Ernestine (Wickie) Wickett. Named after his grandfather, a prominent attorney in Ann Arbor, he had big shoes to fill, but a childhood illness kept him close to home. As a boy he attended Camp Chikopi in Magnetawan, Ontario, where his lifelong love of swimming began. He was a graduate of the Hatch School in Providence, R.I., and held an associate degree from Cleary College. Sports brought him his greatest joy. While he was the University of Michigan’s biggest fan, he also cheered on the Red Wings, Tigers and Lions. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his brother Peter, two nieces, a nephew, a great-nephew and a great-niece. Bonnie was a quiet constant in the lives of his family. Now that he is gone the name that he carried has slipped into the mists of time.
