I will always remember the caring and consideration that existed in John and Terry's family. I only knew you one school year, but it was enough to understand the power of a family that was united in caring and consideration for one another. It's hard to imagine the difficulty your family faces with this loss, and all I can offer is my warmest regard for a person who was resolutely thoughtful and kind.

My prayers, love, tears and concern for all of you. It has been my privilege to know Terry and her Mother Ann Kettles at EMU. Each of them exhibited deep concern for their colleagues (of all levels). May we each share that concern with others.

John and Joe, Ann and Charlie, Cathy and Rich, Maria and Julie, Patrick,
Terry has been on my mind since I heard the news. My heart breaks for all of you, especially Joe. Nothing prepares us for a sudden loss. I have experienced it twice. Be good to yourselves and turn to each other.
My favorite memory is of Terry as a teen took place at year end 1971-72. Terry visited us in Orlando, Florida with her grandmother Marie. Hal and I had recently been transferred to Orlando where we bought our first home. My brother Brian and my parents, Mac and Elizabeth Donnelly, who were Terry's great aunt and uncle and cousin, were all there. Disney World had just opened. We had one full day to explore Disney World together. Terry and Brian were closest in age, so they took off on their own and efficiently got on every ride on their "to-do" list. I was pregnant and thought it best to muddle along with the old folks.
When I saw Terry 45 years later, she told me what a good time she had at Disney World. It was fun to be on the rides, of course. What she especially loved, though, was being treated as an equal. Brian was 6 years older and I was 11 years older than Terry. It was easy for Brian and me to welcome Terry into the big family fold. For Terry, it was more. I learned something from that conversation with Terry. You never know what people will feel and what they will remember. She felt accepted as an equal. Big stuff for a teen. I am so glad she felt our love and respect.
Joe may not remember going to Bay City as a little kid when we dismantled Grandma DeWaele's home. He played with the same Elizabeth Donnelly, Terry's great aunt. Elizabeth and Joe had a good time exploring treasures from an old jewelry box while ignoring the commotion of loading furniture and boxes into waiting cars and trucks that wintery day. It is fun to have a big family and lots of love. Joe, the love is all around you, still.
Sending love from Kansas,
Cousin, Mary Donnelly Smith

My only connection to Terry was to take a class she taught at Purple Rose many years ago. She was a magnificent teacher and in a brief period of time as I was just beginning to return to acting, she taught me some techniques that gave me confidence and improved my craft. So sorry to hear she was taken so suddenly, and too young.......in Judiasm....my religion.....God saves the quick deaths for those who are his best and blessed....her talents will be missed.....my sincerest condolences to her friends, family, colleagues and students. She touched my life and I will remember her. Alice Fell
