Theron Joseph Brooker-Nolan, age 13, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died on Saturday, July 13, 2019 in a drowning accident in South Haven. Theron was born on February 16, 2006 in Ann Arbor. He was the son of Leslie Brooker and Bonnie Brooker-Nolan.

Theron brought much joy and laughter, not only to his immediate family, but also to his wide “chosen family” and circle of friends in Ann Arbor. Theron was a rising eighth-grader at Scarlett Middle School. He was such a compassionate person, who cared deeply about people and animals. He loved video games and was an aficionado of comic books, graphic novels, and movies. He loved basketball and was a huge Detroit Pistons fan. Those who knew Theron knew that he was a sneakerhead. He loved to create things and was an artist. No matter the activity, music was part of it. In all of Theron’s interests, he would learn absolutely everything there was to know and became an expert in many topics. He had an incredible sense of humor combined with a deep, kind heart.

Left behind to cherish his sweet memory are his loving mothers, Leslie Brooker and Bonnie Brooker-Nolan; his grandparents, Theron and Diane Brooker of Battle Creek, Michigan; his uncle, Daniel Brooker of Ypsilanti, Michigan; aunt Kathy Schultz (Dave) of Valrico, Florida; Auntie Ann Schoelch (Mark) of Dover, New Jersey; uncle Bernie Nolan (Julie) of Florida; his cousins Meaghan and Nolan Schultz and Matthew Schoelch; and many dear relatives and friends, both near and far.

Viewing and services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor, 4001 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103-8739. The viewing will be from 10am - 2pm, with a service to celebrate Theron’s life beginning at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people contribute toward a scholarship fund to be established in Theron’s name. They will work with the Scarlett Middle School administration to create a fund that will support students in need of financial assistance to be able to participate in enrichment activities such as summer camps, athletics, or the like. This is in keeping with Theron’s spirit of generosity and his strong desire to help others. Checks should be made payable to Scarlett PTSO, with “In Memory of Theron’” in the memo and sent in care of Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. 4th Ave Ann Arbor, MI 48104.

First, I don’t know any of you, but I was there. My 11, 9 and 7 year olds were there. We are so sorry for the loss of your son. We pray for him often but mostly for you, his mothers. I’m so very sorry for your loss, it’s unimaginable. I know that’s not enough. I’ll never forget your faces and your boy’s. I am so so very sorry and sad about the loss of your son.

I don’t not your family personally, but I was vacationing in the area (from Nashville, TN) the same weekend. I could see from the balcony our rental house the emergency vehicles race to the pier. While, I am a complete stranger—from that moment—I have kept your family in my prayers. May God be with you, as He always is...He is in complete control and has your loved one in the palm of HIS mighty hand. Theron was a precious gift from God for 13 years; he has served HIS purpose.
Be well,
Dr. De

Desmond loved making comics with Theron and being part of the CM club. He also loved making Musical.ly videos, laughing, and playing with legos. Theron was so creative and sweet. We are so sorry for your loss.

Family, I send you my deepest condolences. I'm glad to be one of the many people who shared in Theron's life. It was an honor to teach such an amazing young man, and probably the youngest Futurama super fan ever!

Leslie and Bonnie,
I am so saddened for you. From my first memories of Theron’s baby shower, I knew he would always be surrounded by love. Theron will always be remembered as an amazing kid.
