A long-time resident of Ann Arbor, Tom will be remembered as a creative and peaceful man who cared deeply about others, took pride in his work, and sought to do no harm. He was passionate about so many things. He loved the Michigan outdoors, especially motoring little lakes in the vintage Lyman boat he restored and wading the waters with his good fishing buddies. He loved his basement where his interests ruled: collecting and repairing old outboard motors and antique planes for woodworking, tying fishing flies, listening to music, playing the clarinet and banjo. His studio was down there too. With a fine arts degree from Eastern Michigan University, Tom created artwork all of his life using numerous mediums, subjects and styles. His watercolors appeared in juried art shows but more than anything Tom wanted his art to make people happy. Tom worked for many years in the Michigan mental health system and never forgot the people he knew there.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janet Cohen Fisher, son Adam C. Fisher, daughter Rebecca “Becca” C. Fisher, mother-in-law, Alice S. Cohen, brother David Fisher (Colleen), sister Nancy Fisher Matthews, and five nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the family’s beloved dog, Benny, who misses Tom very much.
A memorial event has been planned for June 1. Friends can reach out to the family directly for details. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tom can be made to the Huron River Watershed Council (https://www.hrwc.org/donate), the National Alliance on Mental Illness https://namiwc.org/donate or AAACF Endowment Fund), or an organization of your choice.
