Verna was united in marriage with the love of her life, Robert Thompson, on August 21, 1966. From this union they were blessed with four wonderful children.
They lived in Mississippi for several years before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan and later to Ypsilanti, Michigan. After relocating to Ann Arbor, Verna joined Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor where she witnessed her four children being baptized as members of the Church. During her membership at Second Baptist, she served on both the Deaconess Ministry and the Progressive Ministry.
Verna worked at the University of Michigan Children’s hospital for 17 years and retired in 1994. After her retirement, Verna’s life devotion was dedicated to the care of her family and grandchildren.
On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, God called Verna home to be with him. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Darrell LaTerry Thompson (Suzanne Thompson.)
Verna is survived by her loving husband, Robert Thompson; her daughter Stacey Phillips; and her two sons, Dontonio Thompson and Delvecchio (Nikia) Thompson; seven grandchildren, John Phillips, Juwan Phillips, Kiara Thompson, Tamia Thompson, Delvecchio Thompson II, Donovan Thompson and Dallas Thompson; One sister, Thelma Harris of Canton, MS; three brothers, Ray Harris of Canton, MS, Canadore Harris of Jackson, MS and Raymond (Angie) Harris of Matteson, IL; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Service will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor (850 Red Oak Rd. Ann Arbor, MI) at 11:00 a.m. with family hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. Thompson will then be laid to rest at The Washtenong Memorial Park & Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00p.m.
