Wellington Burt II

March 13, 1948August 20, 2020

Wellington R Burt II, “Toby”, passed away peacefully in his home on August 20th, 2020 after a two and a half year battle with cancer. Toby was born on March 13, 1948 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Wellington “Duke” and Phoebe Rowe Burt.

He attended Pioneer High School where he won a team state title in golf in 1965. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1970 with a degree in Accounting and Marketing. Toby spent four years working in San Francisco before moving home to Ann Arbor to work in and eventually buy the family business, Burt Forest Products. He enjoyed educating his customers about the various uses of plywood and lumber.

Toby loved Michigan football and basketball, hosting friends for dinner and football parties, weekends at the lake ‘turtle hunting’, golf, and traveling. He was able to travel extensively throughout his life and considered Royal County Down in Newcastle, Northern Ireland and Barton Hills Country Club his favorite golf courses. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Bradley Burt, daughter, Kristin Gibson Burt, “grand-dog” Louis, and extended family. Judy and Kristin would like to thank Dr. and Mrs. C. Peter Fischer for their friendship, support, and medical guidance over the last few years.

A private burial will be held in Ann Arbor. A memorial gathering to celebrate Toby’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley or Evans Scholars at the University of Michigan.

Though I only met Mr. Burt once, at the celebration of life for my late husband, Peter, I want to extend condolences to his entire family at this sad time. I know Pete would be greatly saddened and would want to extend his sympathy to you as well. He enjoyed knowing Mr. Burt and helping with trips to the airport.

RIP Deuce.
Photo attached is where I was sitting when I first met Toby. From this day blossomed a great friendship. We'd travelled to see each other over the years and how I wish I could travel again to give Judy & Kristin a big hug.
I will forever cherish the time we knew each other.
Love ya mate.

Judy and Kristin,
Our prayers are with you for God's grace and peace. You were a second family for our son while he was at M, and Rob constantly talked about how wonderful Toby was to him as his boss during his summer job. We will never forget your kindness to our son. We send our love, Rich and Chris
