William H. Burkhardt

William H. "Bill" Burkhardt, 83, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Ann Arbor. Bill was born on August 21, 1934 in Welland, Ontario, Canada to William Karl & Catherine A. (nee: Mullvihill) Burkhardt. Bill was first an educator, teaching and coaching in the Dearborn School District. Later, he returned to his father's insurance business in New Baltimore where he raised his family. He enjoyed travel, excellence in bridge and amateur sports. Year after year, he would attend the Michigan High School Basketball Finals with his friends from New Baltimore, subsequently with his son and grandsons. Bill has been taking "one day at a time" for over thirty years and a sponsor to many. “He lived and died on his own terms…” a family member recalled.

Bill is survived by his wife Xuming Wang, children, Janet (Michael) Sprenger, William (Susan) Burkhardt, Carole (Tim) McGillen and Mary Haire; siblings, Paul (Ruth) Burkhardt, Dr. Donald (Bernadette) Burkhardt and Sr. Ellen Burkhardt, O.P.; grandchildren, Christen (Curtis) Burdette, Scott (Eryn) Sprenger, Dan (Melody) Sprenger, Kelli Sprenger, Rachel Sprenger, William Burkhardt, Matthew Burkhardt, James (Michelle) Burkhardt, Nichole (Ted) Lane, Rob (Sarah) Haire, Rory McGillen, Connor McGillen and Brennan McGillen; great-grandchildren, Elliott Sprenger, Amalia Sprenger, Emmett Sprenger, Kara Lane, Zoey Haire, Ava Haire, Charles Burdette and Natalie Burkhardt. Also survived by nieces, Julie Clowes, Margaret Burkhardt, and Susan Burkhardt; nephew Dr. Donald (Heidi) Burkhardt; great-nieces, Katie Burkhardt, Sarah Burkhardt; great-nephews, Will Burkhardt and Jacob Burkhardt.

Bill was pre-deceased by his sister and her husband Joann (Earl) Clowes.

Friends may visit Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 South Fourth Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48178, from 11:00 a.m., until the time of the service 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Muzzi of Crossroads Community Church - South Lyon, presiding.
