Baerbel Christa Purdy

Baerbel (Barbara) Christa Purdy of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 after a long and happy life of 85 years. She died peacefully after a challenging year and half from complications of 2 strokes.

She is preceded in death by her parents Paul & Henriette Marschall, and a brother Siegfried Marschall of Germany. Barbara was born May 16, 1940 in Odereck Germany. Marrying Ben in August of 1962 who was in the US Army and stationed in Herzogenaurach Germany. They returned to the US in 1964 and lived in Ben’s hometown of Annapolis raising a family.

Barbara enjoyed gardening, swimming, and trips to Atlantic City. For years she was a member of the Thursday Women’s League at the Colonial Lanes duck pin bowling alley. After raising her family, she volunteered at Anne Arundel Medical for 10 years, volunteered as a Reserve Police Officer for Anne Arundel County Southern District for 10 years. She earned a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and was employed for several years by a local physician, Dr. Michael Monias.

She is survived by her husband Owen (Ben) Purdy of Annapolis, a son Don Purdy(Lucie) of Ridgely, a daughter Sabrina Purdy of Annapolis, a brother Heinz (Sonya) Marschall in Germany, and her faithful pup Papion. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Barbara wishes, services and interment will be private.
