Barbara was born on October 19, 1931 in Annapolis, Maryland, to Stephen Willard Duckett and Thelma Lloyd Duckett. She spent most of her life in the Annapolis area, graduating from Annapolis High School in 1949 and attending The Maryland College for Women until it closed in 1952.
Her love throughout her life was horses. She spent much of her time training and riding her horses, kept at her parents’ home, Whites Hall Farm, in Gambrills. She was also an artist and leaves behind numerous oil paintings, pastels, needlework pieces and knitted treasures for her family and friends to remember her by. Her last big project was a series of beautiful needlepoint pieces depicting the Six Days of Creation, which she gifted to her pastor. She also spent over 30 years volunteering through the Auxiliary of Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Barbara married Melvin Leroy Hiller on June 8, 1953, following his graduation from the US Naval Academy. They later divorced. Barbara is survived by her two children, Susan Lee Hiller of Churchton, Maryland, and Stephen Duckett Hiller (Sandra), of Annapolis, as well as her grandchildren, Matthew Stephen Hiller and Victoria Grace Hiller, both of Annapolis, who were the joy of her life. She was predeceased by her parents.
Barbara passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father on January 18, 2022, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Burial was private, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
