Brian Wade McMahon, 69, passed away peacefully at home in Annapolis, MD on August 11, 2025, after a brief, heroic battle with cholangiocarcinoma. Born March 18, 1956, in Washington, D.C. to Lenora Jeanne and Harry Joseph McMahon, Brian was raised with his five siblings in Vienna, Virginia, graduating in 1974 from James Madison High School where he was voted most athletic. Brian was a distinguished but humble three-sport athlete who earned a baseball scholarship to George Mason University, where he completed his studies with a degree in Health and Physical Education.
In 2007, Brian took a chance on a blind date at a black-tie affair where he met Bridget Bell, the love of his life. They married in 2010 during the famous February “snowmageddon” at St. Mary’s Parish with his fearless, weather-braving daughter at his side. In the years after moving from his native Virginia to Maryland, he remained passionate about family and golf, while discovering newfound loves for travel and playing Santa at the McMahon family Christmas gathering. Brian embraced his new role as stepdad, learning to stage crew one stepson’s many musical theater performances and coach his other stepson’s Little League Baseball Team all the way to Cooperstown.
He retired in 2019 after a successful 39-year career with Verizon as a sales engineer. Brian is survived by his wife Bridget, his beloved daughter Cara Jeanine, his stepson, Navy Veteran Reed Webber, wife Ruffa, and grandson Luke Ashley, his stepson Chase Webber and girlfriend Madison McBride, his mother Jeanne McMahon, Brother Joe McMahon and wife Debbie, sisters Maureen McMahon, Kathleen Trimble, Colleen Hyde and husband Brian, father-in-law H. Clark Bell and wife Lois, brother-in-law Kieran Bell and wife Carolyn, sister-in-law Kathleen Roberts and husband Josh, and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Brian was predeceased by his father, Navy Veteran Harry Joseph “Sonny” McMahon (2020), his brother Richard “Rick” McMahon (2024), and his brother-in-law Gray Trimble (2015).
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday August 15, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 16, 2025 at 9 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. The interment will be private.
