Carol Andrews (nee Anuskewicz) Ellis

Beloved wife of Rear Admiral (ret.) George Ellis of Annapolis, Maryland, sister of Raymond W. Andrews of Philadelphia and Barbara Lasko Saunders of Midlothian, Virginia.

Carol and George were married at the Naval Academy chapel on July 19, 1997, and lived at his home in Annapolis near his daughter and her husband, Susan and Joseph Snyder. Carol participated in the Naval Academy Spouses’ and Civilians’ Book Club and attended the Christian Science churches in Annapolis and Vero Beach. Winters were spent in Vero Beach, Florida, at their home at the Village Spires. There, as in Annapolis, they enjoyed membership in the Yacht Club. Together they made their way through the Panama Canal, stayed overnight with a local family in China, visited the tulip fields of Holland and the American Cemetery in France.

Carol diligently pursued researching family history, specifically tracing the origins of grandparents and great-grandparents who emigrated from Poland. In this regard she was active in the Polish American Arts Association, based in Washington, DC, and travelled to Poland on three occasions over the years.

In 1961 Carol graduated from Emory University and later earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology. She worked for the family division of the Court of Common Pleas in the City of Philadelphia and later for the Johnstone Training and Research Center in New Jersey. When she moved to the Washington, DC area, she worked for the Lewis Law Firm as a paralegal/special assistant for domestic cases. In 1963 she was accepted by the Peace Corps.

Carol passed on at Anne Arundel Hospital on Monday, July 20, with George at her side. She was 80.

A private interment will be held at the family plot at Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania at a later date. Charitable contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to any worthy organization of your choice.

My condolences to Carol's family. She was a client at the animal hospital where I worked. She was a delight and loved her little cat Polka Dot. She will be missed.
