

Dan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, is survived by his wife of sixty years, Karen Risher; his children, Brien (Krissy) Risher, and John (Kate) Risher; daughter-in-law Katy Risher; ten cherished grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sisters, Martha Davis Lamb and Sara Risher; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Risher.
After graduating from Notre Dame University, Dan received his DSc. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1969. He devoted four decades to Westinghouse Electric Company, where he was known not only for his exceptional technical expertise but also for his integrity, humility, and generous willingness to mentor others. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the development and advancement of Westinghouse's nuclear safety analysis technology. His work helped advance the safety of nuclear power and influenced generations of engineers. He took great pride in his profession, and his knowledge, character, and quiet dedication earned the lasting respect and friendship of colleagues throughout his career.
Dan and Karen spent many happy years in Pittsburgh raising their family. When Dan was assigned to England as a member of the Westinghouse U.K. Technical Assistance Team in the early eighties, the family enjoyed international living and travel. When Dan retired in 2008, Karen and Dan moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where they enjoyed their life with family and friends.
Dan will be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his passion for home theatre, music, tennis, sailing, fine wine, and good chocolate. He was known for his quick dry wit and quiet sense of humor. He will be missed.
