Obituary of Dorothy Lorine Gosney
Dorothy Gosney was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on May 3, 2022 at age 98. She was born to Clarence and Audra Platt on November 2, 1923 in Shelbyville, Indiana. Though she loved school and learning, she relinquished schooling after the eighth grade to help care for her parents’ burgeoning family — she was the big sister to eight younger siblings. During the Second World War, Dorothy worked to build uniforms for our soldiers, and when she was twenty-two, she was introduced to another Shelbyville native, Paul Gosney, home from serving his country in the Phillipines; six weeks later on October 6, 1945, they were married, and soon moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area. Dorothy loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family, and sewing faithfully with the women’s group at her beloved Methodist church, where their quilts were auctioned to help support needy people. She loved the children of the church, and cared for them side-by-side with her husband, Paul. Another dear love was Tippy, a memorable poodle who learned how to bring her slippers every evening. Dorothy is survived by two brothers, Wayne and David Platt, three children, Douglas Gosney, Kathy Watkins and Keith Gosney, three grandchildren — Erin Nordmann, Robin Marks and Bryce Gosney, — and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy benefitted greatly in her final years from the loving care of Peartree House in Pasadena, Maryland and Hospice of the Chesapeake. Services of Remembrance will occur in Mesa, Arizona at a later date.
