Edward “Ed” James Barnes passed away peacefully on August 2, 2020 at his home, Baywoods of Annapolis, at the age of 99. He was born on September 8, 1920 in Lynn, Massachusetts to his loving parents, Edward and Irene Barnes. He graduated in 1942 from Fordham University in Bronx, New York and was soon deployed to Europe, where he served as a medic behind the front lines in France for the United States Army during World War II. He remained in the Army Reserves for 30 years, before retiring as an Army colonel. After serving overseas, Edward returned to school to pursue law at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After graduation, he worked his way up to senior trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice Criminal Division in Washington, D.C., where he worked with his brother Walter prosecuting fraud and political corruption cases in a variety of judicial districts countrywide. Following his work with the Department of Justice he served in the Maryland State Attorney General’s office for 5 years in Baltimore, MD. and completed his practice of law working in the Montgomery County Attorney General’s office for 10 years. Edward volunteered for several local organizations including Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the Maryland Spousal Abuse Program in Montgomery County, and the Father’s Club at Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. In his retirement years, he loved to see the world through his travels, with one of his favorite places being his second home in Avalon, New Jersey, where he enjoyed sunsets, sticky buns, and a good whiskey sour. However, his favorite place to be was where his family could come together and enjoy life just as much as he did. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Anne, and son-in-law, Roy. Edward James is survived by his brother Walter, and his four children, Anne (Roy) Colin, Edward Jr. (Felice), Carl (Sally), and Paul (Mary Ellen).
