Gayle was born in Louisville, Kentucky June 11, 1929. He was the son of the late Harold L. Stucker and Emma Lee Stucker of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Stucker, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky and Richard Stucker of Pageland, South Carolina. He graduated from Kiser High School in Dayton, Ohio in 1947. Following Graduation Gayle enlisted in the USMC. During his enlistment he obtained a Secretary of the Navy Appointment to the US Naval Academy and graduated with the class of 1953. Gayle Married Edith Ann Tucker in 1954. After serving 4 years Gayle resigned his commission and obtained employment with IBM. He served 34 years with IBM before retirement. Gayle and Edie were married 69 years. He is survived by his wife Edie and two children: Karen Johnson and her husband Steven of Brookeville, MD and Garrett Stucker of Lake Ridge, Virginia, 4 grandchildren: Cheryl Ann Machi and her husband Marty Paul, Erin Nicole Dyer and her husband Bryan, Matthew Wayne Johnson and Kyle Garrett Stucker, two great grandchildren: Rex Christian Machi and Riley Elle Dyer.
After retirement from IBM, Gayle was active in Heritage Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher. He served as an assistant in the Heritage Learning Center Preschool. Other activities he enjoyed were volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, taking a lead role in sponsoring a refugee family whom he helped get employment, housing and their American Citizenship, serving on the Board of Directors for Langton Green Inc (a non-profit organization for adults with developmental disabilities) and was active in the Rotary's Books for International.
His hobbies included running in Marathons, honey bees, golf, wood carving, lego robotics and reading.
A visitation for Gayle will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 2 to 5 pm at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401. Further visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 10 to 11 am in Heritage Baptist Church where a Funeral Service will begin at 11 am. Interment Maryland Veteran Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gayle's name to B.I.G Books at Suite B, 451 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or Heritage Baptist Church at 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401.
