

George Louis Phillip Sams, 92, died peacefully in Sykesville, Maryland on August 21, 2016. He was born in Annapolis, Maryland in 1923 and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1941. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. In 1949 he attended the Peabody Conservatory where he majored in trumpet. He played trumpet in a dance orchestra. After a 30 year career as an auto mechanic he went to work for the USN National Capital Region Motor Pool where he worked until his retirement. He spent his retirement years working alongside his wife ministering to the people of the Appalachia. He enjoyed music, riding motorcycles, working on cars, spending time with family and friends and helping others in his community. He was preceded in death by Elsie Sams, his wife of 52 years. Survivors include children, Ronnie Sams and wife, Cathy of Sykesville; Bradley Sams of Annapolis; Bonnie Thoma and husband, John of Crofton; Jo Anne Dudeck and husband, Edward of Eldersburg. He was the proud grandfather of John Thoma, Jr. and wife, Kaytrina; Tracy Casabianca and husband, Frank Jr and Jeffrey Thoma; and great-grandfather to Vincent Thoma and Frank III, Jonas and Kit Casabianca. A Funeral Service will be held, 12:30pm,Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis, MD 21401. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11am – 12:30pm. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
