Gillian Bittner

Gillian Bittner ( nee Cowburn) 78 of Annapolis, Maryland, formerly of Ocean City and Somers Point, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 at Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis after a 4 1/2 year battle that left friends and loved ones in awe at her strength and will to live. Gillian was born in Shotten, Wales to Maurice and Beatrice "Betty" Cowburn on July 3, 1944. She was the loving mother of 2 sons; Scott of Somers Point NJ and Michael of Olon, Ecuador and 3 grandchildren, (Kennedy, Jackson, and baby Gillian). She was the longtime partner of Frank McGarry of Annapolis Maryland. Gillian was predeceased by her husband Jack and her brother Gareth. Gillian attended the University of Birmingham where she studied Education and Nutrition. She briefly taught in the United Kingdom before she moved to the United States in 1967 where she began a career as a dietician at St Lukes Hospital in Philadelphia. At St. Lukes she met and married John H (Jack) Bittner in 1970 and later they lived in and raised their boys in Ocean City where she and Jack operated several successful businesses. Gillian loved tennis as a youth and participated in several national teams in Wales. Both Gillian and her brother Gareth played at a near professional level. In 2010 she moved to Annapolis, Maryland to be with her dear partner Frank McGarry until her passing. A service of celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Ocean City New Jersey.
