She was born in Brooklyn, MD on March 22, 1930 to the late Raymond E. Griffith and Stella U. Griffith. She moved to Ferndale, MD at age 11 and attended Glen Burnie High School. She worked at Read's Drug Store in Annapolis, MD where she met her husband Charles (Buck) W. Stapf and married on Nov. 25, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis. She resided in Annapolis until 2014 when she relocated to New Bern, NC to be near her daughter.
Gloria received her realtor’s license and started working after her youngest child started school. She worked for Mann Realty and then Sy Bishop and Associates Realty; she took pride in her job and became a million dollar sales agent. After retiring, she worked at NVR homes, Woodward and Lothrop, Pusser's gift shop at the Hilton Hotel, Interior Concepts, Annapolis Roads Apartments, and volunteered at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Gift Shop (Tawes Building). Gloria loved the beach, where she spent a lot of time in Ocean City, MD. She always made time to spend with family near or far. She was a caring, selfless person who touched many lives, and went out of her way to do for others. She was a member of the Crabtowne and Potomac Ski Clubs, BPOE Elks, Fleet Reserve Club, and Davidsonville Dance Club. In New Bern, she participated in the New Comers and Alumni groups. She was an avid dancer and continued dance lessons until she was 89 years old. She traveled, went on cruises, and enjoyed shopping. You never knew what to expect when she said she had bought you something; unique for sure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jay (Jaybird) Karl Stapf, husband Charles W. Stapf, brothers Elwood Griffith and Joseph Vickers, sister June Hopkins, and great grandson Brody D. Kupcak.
