Gordie worked with me for 2 years developing the design of the Robots used for the IEEE Robot Challenge. We had a great time coming up with different ideas, which we passed along to each other, improved on them, then swapped them again and improved on them further, till we got the final design currently in use (see photo).
23 years later, the project is still going strong, and over 6000 High School students have had the opportunity to experience what it's like to work as an engineer, and many have chosen to go to Engineering School and become engineers.

Jen & Elise,
The first time I met your grandfather was about 40 years ago when your mom and dad were dating. He took us all sailing and I'll never forget his joy at being on the river with his son and your mom. Years later when you two were born, he was overjoyed and beamed whenever you were around. I've never seen a prouder grandfather. Focus on all the many happy memories of times spent with your grandfather to help you through this sad time.

Jennifer & Elise,
The loss of your grandfather within a short time of the loss of your dear father is difficult for you both.
Proudly, you will carry on the Gaertner legacy, with a positive spirit and an inherited determination to succeed in all aspects of life as did your father and grandfather.
Thoughts are with you and your devoted mother, Sharon, during this difficult time.

Gordon was so kind, gracious, humble, busy, and entertaining. He was a renowned mariner and model railroader, and opened his home to my family where we shared so many wonderful get togethers. My wife and I were married at his shore home almost 20 years ago, and this was one of his favorite memories, which says a lot about him. His life set a fine example for others to follow, and my sincerest condolences are extended to the Gaertners. I know I speak for my family when I say how much I will miss him.
