January 15, 1928 to June 24, 2022
Henry (“Hank”) Bischoff, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA and Wildwood Crest, NJ, died peacefully of natural causes on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Annapolis, MD. He was 94. Hank was predeceased by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Dolores Irene (“Dory”) (née Sonzogni).
A life-long Philadelphian, Hank was born January 15, 1928 to Lydia (née Husted) and Henry Bischoff, Sr. He received a B.A. from Central High School (1945), where he played trumpet in the football band; and both a B.S. in Business (1949) and law degree (1952) from Temple University, where he was Executive Editor of the Temple Law Quarterly. His trumpet skills helped him pay for his education, as Hank worked nights and weekends playing in a big band based in the Kensington neighborhood.
As an attorney, Hank worked for 25 years in the regional legal office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and operated his own private practice thereafter, continuing to take legal education classes as a nonagenarian.
Hank’s second home was the Jersey Shore. In the late 1960s, he became an active member of the Greater Wildwood Yacht Club (GWYC) in Wildwood Crest, NJ. He served in numerous flag officer positions, including Commodore in 1973. Under his leadership, GWYC hosted the International Moth Class Association (IMCA) World Championship Regatta.
In his forties, Hank took up skiing for the first time, a sport he would enjoy well into his 80s. Through skiing, Hank was able to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad. He also served for many years as Treasurer of the Philadelphia Ski Club. He was part of the congregations at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Philadelphia, PA, and Notre Dame de la Mer, Wildwood Crest, NJ, and a member of several German social clubs.
Hank is survived by his loving daughter Carol Ann Bischoff, son-in-law Michael Regan, and beloved granddaughters Emma Mae and Erin Margaret Regan, all of Arlington, VA; brother Robert Bischoff, of Perkasie, PA; nieces, including Ruth A. Bischoff of New Britain, PA and Janet R. Bischoff of Sykesville, MD; nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and caregivers.
On Thursday, August 18, 2022, there will be a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by an 11:30 a.m. blessing and visitation at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, both on Duke of Gloucester Street in downtown Annapolis, MD. Hank’s interment will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, https://www.curesarcoma.org/donate/
