

Cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home where he wanted to be, surrounded by loved ones. Now standing in the presence of the Lord healed, without pain.
James was born on February 7, 1940, to Charles Lanks and Elizabeth(Goodrich) Lanks. He graduated high school from Augusta Military Academy where he was the Commander of C Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Basic Airman from 1959-1963. He received a good conduct metal and was honorably discharged. Upon his return from overseas he graduated from Capital College with an Electrical Engineering degree.
On Nov 27, 1965, he was united in marriage with Leila Orvoki (Heininen) Lanks. This union came three blessings Kathleen, Michelle, and Suzanne. James had a fulfilling career as an Electrical Engineer at Goddard Space Flight Center NASA where he managed the largest clean room at the time in the world. It housed and prepared numerous satellites for orbit including the Hubble Space Telescope and the original Space Shuttle.
Anyone who knew James knew he was a character. He was witty, ornery and knew how to make people laugh. James’ sense of humor and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed shooting skeet, hunting, watching westerns and sports. He loved long road trips to see the country side with his family and friends. He was a faithful member of St Mary’s Catholic Church.
James is survived by his loving wife, Leila H. Lanks of 59 years; three children, Kathleen Broman of Annapolis, MD, Michelle Douglass of Melbourne, FL, Suzanne Lanks of Winterpark , FL; five grandchildren, Katlyn, Lexi, Emily, Lindsay, and Riley. Two son-in-laws, Michael Broman of Annapolis, MD and William Douglass of Melbourne, FL.
In addition to his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Lanks he was preceded in death by his sisters, Laura Pellegrini of BelAir, MD, and Francis Janke of Annapolis, MD.
The Family will have a small funeral with immediate family to celebrate James’ life. He battled 15 years with multiple myeloma.
