“Love, Jan.” Christmas and birthday cards would arrive with only that simple, yet sentimental closing. Undoubtedly, being forthright and honest was a character trait inherited from her grandparents of Scottish ancestry who immigrated to Canada and then Massachusetts in the early 1900’s from Dumbarton, Scotland.
Jan M. Sample left this earth peacefully on August 13, 2020 at her home in Annapolis, Maryland at the age of 66. She was born on June 9, 1954 to James H. Sample and Jesse Campbell Sample in Easthampton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Easthampton High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics at the University of Vermont, her Masters of Science degree in Management from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and her certificate for Female Entrepreneurs at the University System of Maryland.
Growing up, she loved fashion, skiing, traveling and studying the French language in high school taking a memorable trip to Paris with friends in her sophomore year. Center Street in Easthampton was home, surrounded with love, the smell of her mother’s masterful cooking, her father “Big Jim’s” melodic singing voice and always a beloved Standard Poodle. Chicago and Stowe, Vermont were frequent destinations spending time with her Aunt Jeanie and Uncle Jean.
Jan worked as an executive at Digital Equipment Corporation for over 20 years traveling extensively throughout Europe and Asia.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents James H. Sample and Jesse Campbell Sample, Aunt Jeanie Campbell Huff and Uncle Jean R. Huff, Uncle James Richardson Campbell, and Uncle John Walker Campbell. She is survived by her Aunt Jane R. Campbell of Middlebury, Vermont, cousin Jacquelyn Campbell Vinci, her husband Richard and son Andrew of Omaha, Nebraska and devoted friend Charlie Chagnon of Leominster, Massachusetts.
In our hearts, you will always be a memory kept of one we loved and will never forget.
Love you, Jan.
