Joe Rodowsky was born in Baltimore and moved to Annapolis in 1934 when his parents opened a grocery store on Chesapeake Avenue in Eastport. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator/waste gunner on B-17s. He then attended the University of Maryland. Joe married Helen Williams of Annapolis in 1953, and they remained married until her death in 2007.
Joe was a successful Administrator with Nationwide Insurance Company from 1952 until his retirement in 1988. During the 1970’s he was a two term Annapolis City Alderman. He served as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as on the Civil Service Board and Police and Fire Committees. He was a true public servant. After he retired, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Helen and woodworking. He built many treasured pieces for family and friends.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness, giving spirit, joyful nature, great sense of humor, and so much more. He was loved dearly and he will be missed by many.
