Linda T. Osburn

Linda Travis Osburn, 76, passed away peacefully April 12, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Osburn was born in Long Beach, CA on April 30, 1941. She was the eldest of two children born to Charles William Travis and Esther Talley Travis. When she was 3 months old, her family moved to Annapolis, MD where she grew up on Southgate Avenue. She attended school in Annapolis until her senior year when she transferred to and graduated from Saint Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, VA. Shortly after graduation, she met and married David Lowell Osburn and became a Navy wife. Mrs. Osburn was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Captain David Lowell Osburn, USN (Ret.). Captain Osburn lost his battle with cancer in May of 2010.

As a young Navy wife, Mrs. Osburn embraced motherhood and learned to always be prepared for the next move. Their many moves with the Navy took them to Beeville, TX; Jacksonville, FL; Monterey, CA; Kingsville, TX; Virginia Beach, VA; Winter Springs, FL and Annapolis, MD. While being stationed for an extended time in Virginia Beach, Mrs. Osburn entered the part time work force as a substitute teacher for several years. When her children became older, she began a full time position with Dow Personnel as an employment agent. She excelled in this line of work and specialized in the department of engineering and technical work job placement. After a few short years, she was offered and accepted a partnership with the company. She continued the partnership through the years in Winter Springs.

Mrs. Osburn enjoyed traveling with her husband and they had the opportunity to travel to several countries. At home, she most enjoyed being with her husband, family and pets and she loved hosting family gatherings. In addition she also enjoyed entertaining, cooking, reading, playing bridge and listening to opera and classical music. Over the years she was involved with several organizations including her community improvement association and garden club, book clubs, bridge club, Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Questers and Panhellenic Club. She had a love for all animals and was willing to rescue, nurse, rehabilitate and release or adopt any animal in need. She had a very kind and charitable heart and supported many charities.

Mrs. Osburn is survived by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law Henry (Sonny) Long, Jr. and her son, David (Chip) and daughter- in-law Karen, her grandchildren, Christopher and Kaylee. She is also survived by her sister, Dr. Barbara T. Furlow, her nephew, Christopher and his family and her niece, Elisabeth (Lisa) and her family. She is also survived by her husband’s cousin, Barbara Short of Houston, TX, who grew up with him as a sister.

A memorial service will be held for Linda Travis Osburn at the United States Naval Academy Chapel on Monday June 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society or the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.
