Marilyn Jones Corbett, 79, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on November 10, 2025. Born on August 14, 1946, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Millard Jones and William Jones. After graduating from Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, she earned her degree from Vanderbilt University in 1967.
Marilyn was a dedicated public servant and educator who served the State of Maryland with distinction. She held the position of Deputy Director of Public Information at the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, later served as the Director of Public Affairs for the Maryland Aviation Administration, and participated in the Governor’s trade mission to England. In addition, Marilyn was associated with the BWI Business Partnership and the Maryland Economic Development Association. Through her professionalism and effective communication, she earned considerable respect in her field. Additionally, Marilyn was a member of the 2001 Leadership Anne Arundel graduating class. Earlier in her career, she taught history at the secondary school level. Marilyn was also an entrepreneur and founded and was president of Back Creek Communications, LLC.
Her personal joys included love of animals—especially English Sheepdogs—and she delighted in the ducks who visited her home. Her favorite tradition was spending time each year at Rehoboth Beach, enjoying the ocean, her favorite restaurant, The Back Porch, Havana Daydreams, and the company of friends. She also enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Marilyn loved Baltimore football, starting with the Baltimore Colts (Johnny Unitas) and later the Ravens (Lamar Jackson). She was amazed at the success of her Vanderbilt Commodores, now ranked in the top 20.
Marilyn is survived by her stepsister, Debbie Gooding, a large, loving family of cousins: Harry Mattern, Patricia Mattern, Thomas Mattern, Peg Mattern, Robert Mattern, Janie Millard Dean, Rick Millard, Mike Millard, and David Millard, and numerous friends.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
