Marina Ann Schofield, beloved daughter, sister, and mother, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, in Annapolis, Md., on Feb. 22, 2022, at age 57. She was born in Centre County, Pa., the daughter of J. Herbert Martin (deceased) and Becci Martin Leatherman.
Marina spent her childhood years in Harrisonburg, Va., and after moving to Lancaster, Pa., graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1983. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 1987 with a degree in Landscape Architecture, she moved to Old Town Alexandria where she worked as a Landscape Architect. She enjoyed studying and designing inspiring outdoor spaces throughout her life.
Marina graciously volunteered her time to support her sons and her community. She often shared her talents with friends and family and recently donated her time and talent to restore a native conservation landscape on the grounds of St. Philip’s church in Annapolis. She was extremely artistic by nature, whether it was playing piano or painting in watercolor. Marina’s wit, smile, and the way she relayed stories provided much humor for family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Matthew and Phillip Schofield; her sister, Kristina Groome; her brother, Tom Martin; and her mother, Becci Martin Leatherman.
Marina’s family is very thankful for the care she received from Georgetown University Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a gift can be made to the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
A celebration of life service will be planned at a later date.
