Mary Alice ‘Alice’ Dammeyer (née Gibson), passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 10, 2026, in Annapolis, MD, at the age of 91. She is survived by her children, Chuck (Anne-Marie) Dammeyer, Jerry (Kelley) Dammeyer, Diane (Tim) Elliott, Dave (Barbara) Dammeyer, Mike (Margaret) Dammeyer, Denise (Randy) Bowen, Elaine "Lanie" Dammeyer, and Patrick (Suzanne) Dammeyer; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren with #24 due in December. Alice is predeceased by her devoted husband of 71 years, Charles William ‘Bill’ Dammeyer. Alice was born in Annapolis on November 20, 1934, to Scott Kendall Gibson and Mary Dunleavy. She was raised along with her younger brother, Scott Kendall (Nancy) Gibson, Jr., in a Navy family. As such, Alice also lived in Hawaii and Portsmouth, VA, before returning to Annapolis to attend St. Mary’s High School.
While at St. Mary's, she met her soulmate, Bill. The high-school sweethearts married on July 5, 1953, and subsequently welcomed eight children into their family. After high school, Alice worked for Nationwide Insurance Company. As a wife and homemaker, Alice actively supported Bill’s career and dedicated herself to raising their growing family.
After her children were all in school, Alice attended the University of Maryland where she proudly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. She then returned to St. Mary’s High School, where she enjoyed working in the library.
Alice pursued many passions and hobbies throughout her life, including traveling, reading, jogging/walking, and other sports. Alice and Bill regularly cheered on the Navy football team and often enjoyed traveling to the annual Army-Navy game. She was an avid tennis player and as active members of the Anne Arundel County Tennis Association (AACTA), she and Bill enjoyed playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
For the last 4 years of her life, Alice resided at Ginger Cove where she was known for her love of singing, dancing, hugging and walking.
Among Alice's greatest joys were her Catholic faith and her family. As a proud member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alice attended regular services and passed on her faith as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Alice’s memory lives on in all those who loved her.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 14 from 2 to 4 pm and 5 to 7 pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A mass of Christian burial will occur Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 9:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 620 N. Bestgate Rd. Annapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alice’s name to St. Mary's School Tuition Angel 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis, MD 21401, will be appreciated.
