Mildred Lucy Wilkins was born on February 4, 1924 in New York City. Mildred was the 6th Child born in a tight knit and boisterous crew of 12 Siblings (6 boys, 6 girls). Known as Millie all her life, she was both Gracious and Feisty, Funny and Loving, Easy to please and incredibly Loyal with an intense passion for justice. Millie attended Central High School in New York City and entered the field of Dentistry shortly thereafter. Known for her unusually beautiful smile, Dentists in her practice often lauded her for having a perfect bite. Millie would proudly tell you her bite was so perfect that her mouth and bite were used to set moldings for patients requiring Dentures!! Her unique laugh and sunny personality were often the life of the party. And ohhh, did she love to eat!!!
Millie was a very sociable person with a big heart and welcome anyone in need of help. Both Millie and her Husband John Wilkins, loved having their grandchildren around and soon the children of the neighborhood dubbed Millie, as nana.
To all who loved her, Millie was the one person to confide in for all of your secrets and she fully loved you through all of your darkest moments, and supported you through them, no matter what. It’s been said by many that she was their biggest cheerleader, and always had a way of making you feel special.
Millie was always a Religious person; she would fondly say that her mother raised her up on the 10 commandments! She would be in her room reading God’s word the Bible for hours and the only reason for stopping was as Millie would say “ I had to give my eyes a rest!”
Gail, (her daughter) had the honor and privilege of conducting Bible lessons with her mom; along with other dear friends. Millie thereafter, began expressing her heartfelt desire, to dedicate the remaining days of her life in the doing of God’s will!
On July 24th, 2021 Mildred Wilkins was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses! She was so happy and upon getting out of the pool she said “I did it”!! Our dear sister Wilkins, proved that it is never to late to build a strong relationship with our creator, Jehovah God! Millie was 97 years old and was in constant attendance at all her meetings and looked forward to commenting! Sister Wilkins, was deeply prayerful and loved her relationship with Jehovah, the family is confident that Jehovah will say "Well done precious daughter" when he raises her back to life again!
Millie was preceded by her protective husband, John Wilkins as well as the love of her life, her loving and doting son, Teddy Sutherland. She is survived by her daughters Belinda Hollingsworth and Gail Pearson along with 9 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grand Children and her 1 year old great great grandson, Kross.
