Rosa Cerone Cannella, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully, comforted by her strong Catholic faith and surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Born in Muro Lucano, Italy, Rosa immigrated to the United States at the age of 14, bringing with her the values of faith, hard work, and devotion to family that would shape her life. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, graduating in 1956, and soon began her career as a hairdresser at Miss Catherine’s Beauty Shop on Main Street.
In 1963, Rosa returned to her hometown of Muro Lucano to marry her devoted husband, Michele Cannella. Together they built their life in Annapolis, where they raised two children, Dina and Michael. Rosa balanced motherhood with her passion for beauty, running a hair salon from the basement of their home.
Rosa was deeply proud of her Italian heritage and generously gave her time to the local Sons of Italy, as well as sharing her love of cooking by making her signature cannolis for Fred’s Restaurant. Later, she continued her career at Manresa, where she worked as a hairdresser for over 14 years and formed lasting friendships. She adored her siblings — Maria Tirschman (deceased), Pasqualino Cerone (deceased), and Jerry Cerone — and treasured her many nieces, nephews, and friends, cherishing them deeply. With her warm personality, Rosa made friends everywhere she went and was loved by all who knew her.
A lifelong Catholic and devoted member of St. Mary’s Parish, Rosa’s faith guided her every day. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She adored her two granddaughters, Adriana and Carmelina Gilberto, and treasured every moment spent teaching them recipes, sharing traditions, and showing them the love at the center of her life.
Her warmth and spirit touched all who knew her, and her legacy will live on in those she loved most.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosa will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 at 9 am in St John Neumann Church, 620 N Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment Saint Mary Cemetery, West St, Annapolis, MD 21401.
