

Sally was born December 26, 1933 in Washington D.C. to Admiral Oswald Symister Colclough, USN, and Kathleen Bain “Kitty” Colclough. She was graduated from the Holton-Arms School in 1951; she earned a BA and MA in English Literature from George Washington University, Phi Beta Kappa, and later earned an MA in Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins University.
Sally taught English at Holton-Arms School across four decades, where she was beloved by thousands of students and faculty. She also served the Holton community as a trustee and, after retiring, continued to engage with alumnae through her popular book club.
She is survived by her children, Michael Dolan of Washington, DC, and Kerry Dolan (Meg) of Nashua, NH; her step-daughters, Karen Reimer (Jim) of Smyrna, NC and Alicia Alexander of Ithaca, NY; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of forty-two years, John R. Alexander, Jr.
A visitation for Sara will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband.
