Shirley Mae Kimball passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024. Shirley lived a long and great life filled with many memories and great adventures.
She was born in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia on December 16, 1932. She was married to James Cork Kimball who pre-deceased her 30 years ago.
Together they raised four children, Kurt Kimball (Stephanie), Terry Kimball, deceased 10 years ago (Tracey) Maureen Kelly (Tom), and Tracy Thompson (Howie). She had five grandchildren; Zachary Kimball, Shane Kimball, Brennan Kimball, Catie Kimball, and Morgan Heisman. In addition, Shirley also had 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Shirley was also pre-deceased by her parents, Theodore and Edna Yost, and her sister, Betty Ann Bell.
A lifelong resident of Annapolis, a city which she loved dearly, she attended Annapolis High School and met her husband Cork Kimball. They married in 1951.
They were lifetime members of St. Mary’s Parish and School.
After many years of raising her children, Shirley went to work at Anne Arundel County in the Planning and Zoning department. She had a wonderful career and enjoyed her co-workers tremendously. She retired in 2000.
Shirley loved to travel and be with her grandchildren even more.
Her trips took her to Paris, Ireland, St. Petersburg, and London, where she traveled with family and friends to see the world. She also loved working and volunteering at Maryland Hall and Historic Annapolis, where she never met a stranger.
Shirley kept up many family traditions over the years; Thanksgiving dinners, St. Patrick’s Day parties, and Christmas celebrations. She will certainly be missed throughout her network of friends and family.
Shirley had a ‘great life.’
The family would like to thank the staff at Brightview in Annapolis, and Complete Care in Severna Park for their diligent care and comfort over the past six years.
A Mass will be held at St. John Newman Church on April 25 at 10:30 AM, followed by a celebration of life.
Burial will be private.
