Funeral Services for Carol Jean Ledbetter Allen, 65, of Anniston, will be held at Parker Memorial Baptist Church Chapel on Monday, May 10th at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 in the fireside room. Dr. Mack Amis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Algood City Cemetery in Algood TN.
Carol was born April 12, 1956 in Weaver, Alabama and grew up in Anniston. During her youth, she enjoyed dance classes and eventually teaching dance. Her family moved to Maryland her Senior year of high school, where she graduated, and started college at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She later returned to Alabama to complete her studies, graduating from Samford University with a degree in Elementary Education and beginning work teaching elementary school. She also lived in Ft Payne, where she was news director of the radio station there. Carol has a strong faith in Christ and was active at Parker Memorial throughout life. She enjoyed helping with Children's Sunday School and other activities. Carol loved her country and was active in the Calhoun County Republican Party. She held several elected positions during her active years.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie C and Rosa D. Ledbetter, an infant brother, and several aunts and uncles.
Carol is survived by her husband, Virgil "Sonny" Coker, whom she married July 1, 2016 after being best friends for more than 30 years. She is survived by many loved ones including special friends , Louise Sowa of Anniston , Carol Moore of Charlottesville, VA, her aunt and uncle, Betty and Fred Breeding of Cookeville, TN and cousin Kathy Swanson of Knoxville, TN. Her family is honored that Carol had many amazing people in her life and recalls many loved ones who are not mentioned.
