Funeral service for Carolyn Howard, 88, of Saks will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Dr. Mack Amis will be officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 27, 2021 one hour prior to service.
Mrs. Howard passed away on May 25, 2021. She is survived by her sons, John David (Tracy) Howard of Oxford and Scott (Charlotte) Howard of DeArmanville; granddaughter, Abigail Howard; grandsons, Jonathan (Kandace) Howard, Jay (Candace) Howard; granddaughter, Jessica Howard; great grandsons Levi and Kolt Howard; great granddaughter, Lexi Howard, all of Oxford; sister, Gail Cantrell (Raymond) of Jacksonville and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed of over 57 years; parents, Marvin L and Jewell Fite; grandparents, Anniston’s first fire chief D.C. and wife, Julia Rainwater all of Anniston and Marvin L. Fite and Lula (Fite, Brown) of Carthage, TX.
Mrs. Howard was born in Anniston, AL, February 18, 1933. She was a 1952 graduate of Anniston High School and 1956 graduate of Jacksonville State University. She retired from Fort McClellan as an Illustrator in 1996. She was a devoted Christian and member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and adult choir. Art was her passion and life’s calling. She was a former art teacher at Oxford High School and a founding member of the Saks Art Club. She enjoyed spending many hours teaching art and ceramics to students of all ages as well as making crafts and attending arts and crafts shows for many years. Her hands were seldom idle. She was often sewing, mendng clothing for herself, or others or creating crafts for sale or gifts.
Mrs. Howard was a wonderful woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was always in cheerful spirits and thinking of others with uplifting phone calls and cards. She will be truly missed by all who loved her and knew her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pat Butterworth for her love and cheerful kind assistance over the past several years and Tracy Howard, daughter-in-law, for her care and attentiveness while residing in their home. These two were special angels sent by God.
