Cecil Steven Coleman, 70, longtime resident of Anniston, Alabama, passed through the veil on 7 July 2025. Steve was born in Duncan, Arizona on 30 May 1955. He was the sixth child of Cecil Franklin Coleman and Mary Willadean Sanford Coleman. He had three brothers, Jerry Randolph Coleman, Christopher Lynn Coleman (stillborn), and Jimmy Roy Coleman; and two sisters, Dorothy Ann Coleman Boone and Cecelia Jean Coleman Byrd. Steve was the “baby” and he fulfilled that role magnificently! Steve’s eternal mate, Rhonda Elane Burris, preceded him through the veil on 4 June 2021. They had one son, Steven Jacob Coleman who has served his father valiantly as caregiver through his illness.
Steve was a graduate of Walter Wellborn High School and was a very involved “booster” for all things Wellborn, but especially the Wellborn Panther football program. He spent many Fridays chalking the football field prior to the game…and it had to be perfect! His first job was at Freeman Cycle Shop where he learned to repair and rebuild motorcycles. Working on “bikes” also opened the door to competing in motocross races across the Southeast…and his performance was exceptional! This job paved the way for his lifetime career of restoring classic automobiles. He was the “Coleman” in Coleman Classic Cars and the founder of Class Act Automotive Specialties. Many of the cars he restored were prize winners!
Steve was a deeply religious man. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Anniston Ward. He served in many callings including early morning seminary teacher, Gospel Doctrine Sunday School teacher, Branch Mission leader, Branch President, and Stake High Councilor. He was honored to be called to serve as an Officiator in the Birmingham Alabama Temple. He served a mission for the Church in the Brisbane Australia Mission; but, due to a need for medical attention, was unable to complete the full two years. He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and the desire of his heart was to please Him.
Steve loved music and was a talented vocalist. He used that talent to bring joy to others even in his last months of battling Parkinson’s Disease. His music and his work were inseparable…he was always singing as he buried himself in an old car.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and “Dean”; his brother, Jimmy; his sister, “Dot”; and his wife, Rhonda. He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Shirley); his sister, Cecelia Byrd (Richard); and his son, “Jake” (Brett). He also leaves behind three beautiful young grandchildren, Cecily Kayte Coleman and Eli Gibson Coleman, Isla Hope Lesley who left this world 22 August 2025. He also had six adult grandchildren...Morgan, Harley, Riley, Jordan, Maddie, and Blake Lesley...as well as many nieces and nephews.
Steve’s loves and life will be remembered and celebrated on Saturday, 12 July 2025 at the Anniston Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Lenlock Lane in Saks, Alabama. The family will accept visitation at 5:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service will begin at 6:00. All who knew and loved Steve are invited to attend. The service will be followed by his interment at the Vinson Family Cemetery in Ohatchee, Alabama with Anthony Lackey, Billy Joe Chumley, Brody Alford, Sean Gaddy, Blake Lesley, and Blake Gilmore serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to defer funeral expenses. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started and your support is appreciated. Every single share and donation makes a difference.
