

Ohatchee - Funeral services for Charles M. Morton, 85 of Ohatchee will be Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Connell and Rev. Rick Foote officiating with burial following at Bethel Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Morton passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Morton is survived by his wife of 51 years, Audrey “Gwen” Morton; daughters, Sharon Baker and husband Randy, Karen Allen; sons, William Phillips and wife Marie and Ray Phillips and wife Von; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Gertrude Morton; sister, Imogene Portwood; brothers, Rev. Wallace Morton and Harold B. Morton.
Mr. Morton was a native of Calhoun County and resident of Ohatchee. He attended Mt. View Baptist Church and retired from Lee Brass.
CPL (P) Charles M. Morton served honorably with 10 years of service as a Tandem Rotor helicopter mechanic with the 2nd Infantry Division. During his tenure in service from 1947-62, he served in multiple locations throughout the US and Europe. CPL Morton is a veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Korea President Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Citation, Expert (Carbine) badge and Marksman (Rifle) badge.
