Charlie is survived by his dear son, Chase Waits; his parents Ray and Freida Waits; his brother
Joshua (Gibian) Waits; and nieces (Jane Frances and Julia) and nephew (William). He is preceded in death by his grandparents Raymond and Frances Waits, and Polly Crocker Leslie.
Charlie was born in Key West, Florida, on October 18, 1978. He was a graduate of Sparkman
High School in Harvest, AL in 1997. Charlie graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2001, majoring in English. He went on to study law at Cumberland School of Law at Samford
University. Charlie practiced law at Colom Law Firm in Columbus, MS, at a solo law practice in
Decatur, AL, and opened Charlie Waits Attorney-At-Law in Jasper AL. Charlie specialized in
family law, personal injury, and criminal defense. Charlie worked diligently and unwaveringly for
his clients. He ran a valiant campaign in the Republican Primary for the State of Alabama
House of Representatives District 13.
The birth of his son, Chase Waits, was the most important thing that happened to Charlie and
his son was the center of his life. Charlie was a devoted father and cherished his time with his
son. Charlie relished participating in all of Chase's sports endeavors, whether as a coach when
he was young, or as the most avid cheerleader for Chase's outstanding wrestling
accomplishments. Charlie loved traveling with Chase. They enjoyed going out to eat, watching
movies, and just being together. They both loved their church community at Lynn Church of
God. Chase was Charlie's greatest accomplishment and he was beyond proud of his son.
Charlie enjoyed exploring, fishing, all animals and being outside. He had a curious mind and
loved politics and history, especially the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. He loved collecting
Star Wars figures and other memorabilia. Charlie was devoted to defending the common man.
Charlie revered honesty utmost, carried strong opinions, loved deeply, and possessed great
empathy. He was insurmountably loyal to those he loved and cared for. Charlie truly was a
great man and so loved.
Charlie was a strong Christian. He believed strongly in God and studied the Bible regularly.
Charlie enjoyed sharing Christianity with others and letting others know about Jesus Christ, our Savior. Charlie is resting now in heaven.
Visitation will be held on July 18th from 6-8 p.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for July
19th at 3 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston, AL. Burial following the funeral at
Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston, AL. A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 20th at
2:30 p.m. at Lynn Church of God in Lynn, AL, near Jasper.
