

Funeral service for Clarence D. Hamby, 80 of Oxford will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 12-1 prior to the service.
Mr. Hamby passed away Thursday evening, December 24, 2015 at Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hamby is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mikiko Hamby; children, Audrey Hamby; Richard Hamby (Rhonda) and Linda Skinner (John); grandchildren, Matthew Hamby (Kaela McGuire), Michael Hamby (Lexi Royster); Danielle Hamby Ackley (Brian); Caitlin Skinner (Kenneth Quigley) and John Skinner Jr.; sisters, Hilda Bourdeau, Jessie Badeaux (Gerald), and Bette Garbini (Delfo); brothers, Bernard Hamby (Angela) and Rodney Hamby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hamby is preceded in death by his son, Douglas Anthony Hamby; parents, Richard and Barbara Hamby; sisters, Carol Huber, cathleen Chrisman, Frances Rende; brothers, Jack Hamby and J.R. Hamby.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hamby, Matthew Hamby, Michael Hamby, John Skinner Sr., John Skinner Jr., Brian Ackley, Kenneth Quigley, Joey Bourdeau, and Bernard Hamby Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Bentley and Bernard Hamby Sr.
Mr. Hamby served 21 years with the U.S. Army, retiring from the Chemical Corp at Ft. McClellan as a 1st Sergeant. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict receiving numerous awards including the Bronze Star with Oak Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Hamby met and married his wife Mikiko in Okinawa, Japan. He also retired at RMC as Chief Security Officer.
