
Funeral Services for David Smith, 60, of Alexandria, will be Friday at 2:00 at Gray Brown Service Mortuary with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Anniston.
Survivors include his sons David Smith Jr. (Rebecca), Pelham Smith, daughter Doris Jayne Smith, sisters Peggy Kelley (Johnny), Teresa Christopher (Rickey), Janet Gardner, Kay Johnson (Donald), Susan Maxwell (Tony), Robbi Waddell (Wendell), Amy Waugh (Jamey), grandchildren Braxton Smith, Alexandra Smith, Olivia Smith, numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Doris Smith.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Mr. Smith was a resident of Alexandria all of his life. He was owner and operator of Smith Trucking Company for many years before purchasing his own 18 wheeler and driving cross country touring the US as he worked. He learned the truck driving trade along with mechanic as a young boy working alongside his father. He knew the Highways so well, he was a human GPS. From anywhere and any point he could give clear directions. David had a habit of calling people by nicknames and that is what they were known by “Rooster, Monkey, Q-Eller, Jabbo, Rowdy, Red just to name a few. A special thanks to the Dr.’s and nurses at RMC ICU for the tender care of David in his last days.
