Eddie Ray Stone, affectionately known as "Big Ed." was born on March 24, 1956, to Phillip and Ruth Stone. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 29, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted wife, Tammy, and their faithful companion, Piper.
A master mechanic by trade and a true gearhead at heart, Big Ed spent a lifetime doing what he loved most: turning wrenches, solving automotive puzzles, and bringing classic machines back to life. His hands were rarely clean, his garage door was always open, and his willingness to lend a helping hand was as generous as the nickname by which he was known. Whether working on a lifelong restoration project or helping a friend get back on the road, Eddie's knowledge, kindness, and love of automobiles left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
More than anything, Eddie treasured his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Stone; his children, Becky Stone, Eddie Stone, Samie Jo Legg (Dave), and Casey LeClere (Brett). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Daylon Stone, Lacey Stone, Carter Legg, Carson Legg, and Connor Legg, as well as his great-grandchildren, Braylynn Stone and Brentley Stone; and his siblings, Donald Stone (Nancie), Diane Hughes, Nan Stone and Tina Hattaway.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Winston Stone (Iris), Leon Stone, Dale Stone (Louise), Shirley Stone, Ronald Stone, Sandra Taylor (Billy), Randy Hughes, and Dennis Hattaway.
Though Big Ed's tools may now rest and his garage may stand quiet, the legacy of his hard work, generosity, and love for wife, family, friends and the automotive community will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service, officiated by Ray Morris, will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston, Alabama. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will follow immediately afterward at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Dave Legg, Brett LeClere, Carter Legg and Carson Legg.
Honorary Pallbearers: Mike Lipscomb, Donald Stone, Daylon Stone and Connor Legg.
Big Ed will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
