

Mr. Deupree was born on April 15, 1931, a native of Talladega to the late Velma and Ben Deupree. He was the youngest son of two.
Mr. Deupree grew up in Talladega and graduated from Talladega High School in 1949. He played football and was selected to many high school all-state teams. After high school, he accepted a football scholarship to Auburn University, and later took a position with the Austin Pea University football team. His served in the US Army from 1952-1953. After service, he decided to return to college where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Jacksonville State University in 1956. There, he met his loving wife Anne Waters Deupree in Archery class (cupid’s class). They later married in 1954. He was compassionate about his love of football and continued to follow his dream of becoming a coach. Mr. Deupree started his first job as coach in LaFayette, Georgia, and later Austelle, Georgia. Loving Alabama, in 1962, he and his wife, Anne, decided to move back home where he accepted the Head Football coaching position at Walter Wellborn High School for ten years taking home the 1966 State Championship. He continued his teaching career until 1985. Coach Deupree was not only a teacher and coach, but a mentor, friend, daddy, motivator to many students who came across his path. He was incredibly inspirational to many who loved him throughout his time at Walter Wellborn High School.
In 1980, Ed Deupree accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Over many years, he has shared his experience, and giving others the opportunity to have a personal relationship with Jesus, as well. Coach Deupree’s desire was for every soul to know Jesus as their Lord. Due to his faithfulness, many people have been saved and lives changed forever.
Ed Deupree was a loving father who is survived by his three daughters, Lee Anne Deupree Savage (Steve), Dean Deupree Phelps (Dave), and Jamie Deupree Henderson (Todd). He is survived by his 7 grandchildren, Matthew Steven Savage (Gladys), David Adam Savage (Leslie), Ashley Anne Phelps, Jordan Rose Habig (Chris), Jenna Lee Phelps, Mallory Drew Yawn (Caleb), and Landon Todd Henderson. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, Matthew Noah Savage, Natalee Anne Savage, London Patrick Charles Savage, Layla Alyse Savage, David Lorcan Savage, Edward Luke Savage, Jedidah William Savage, and nephews, Skipper Deupree (Joy), and Chuck Deupree.
Mr. Deupree is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Leyden Deupree, his parents Ben and Velma Deupree, and his brother, Jimmy Deupree.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Due to CDC restrictions, people in attendance will need to remain in their vehicles. Speakers will be in place to allow all attendees to hear the eulogy.
