Frances Davis Nunnelly died peacefully in her Ohatchee, Alabama home on May 25th at the age of 86. Frances is survived by her sisters, Lily Mae Greer and Elizabeth Greer; brother, Hulon Davis; children, Flint Nunnelly (wife, Terri), Valerie Nunnelly, Cheryl Leslie (husband, Johnny), Amanda Roberson (husband, Chris); son-in-law, Tommy Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Nunnelly; her brother, Larry Davis; and parents, Grady and Gladys Davis.
Frances was well known by her family and friends for her beautiful seamstress work. She spent countless hours hand stitching elaborate quilts and special occasion dresses with love. She was very active, even in her elder years, and was often found attending her grandchildren’s various sporting events and activities or working outdoors in her garden. She even insisted on cutting her own grass with a push mower well into her later years. Always a young soul, she taught herself to play the guitar while in her 80’s and loved to share her musical talents with others. Frances had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing both praises to the Lord and soothing lullabies to her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of Oak Bowery Baptist Church and used her God given talent with children as a kind and gentle vacation bible school teacher.
Her family will always remember her jovial laugh, sneaky smile, and her beloved red velvet cake, which she made every Christmas. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, community, and the many generations of hummingbirds who will now miss her tender-loving care. Frances and her late husband, Jerry, celebrated 62 years of marriage on Friday, May 24th.
A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29th at Oak Bowery Baptist Church in Ohatchee. Frances’s family will begin receiving visitors at 10 a.m. Reverend Darrell Brown and Reverend Doctor Sam Fordham will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Frances’s life. The family would like to thank all who have spent time with Frances or lifted the family in their prayers.
