Funeral service for Mrs. Glenda Gibbs Phillips, 69, of Anniston will be held at 2pm on Sunday February 11th, 2018 at Parker Memorial Baptist Church with Bro. Mack Amis officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm at the church. A private graveside will be held on Monday at Forestlawn Gardens.

Survivors include her husband of over 48 years, David A. Phillips; daughter Leigh Ann McCullough (Keith); son John David Phillips (Reagan); grandchildren Brennan and Emma McCullough, Cade, Will, and Gibbs Phillips; her mother Frances Erlene Gibbs; and her many brothers and sisters in love.

She is preceded by her father, Alvin E. Gibbs.

Pallbearers will be John David Phillips, Keith McCullough, Brennan McCullough, Cade Phillips, Will Phillips, Gibbs Phillips, Greg Stone, Jim Hicks, Danny Hicks, Phillip Robinson, and Robert Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Covenant Class, the Genesis Class, and the Stan Martin Class of Parker Memorial; the faculty of Golden Springs Elementary School; the faculty of Oxford Elementary (previously OMS); the members of Persephone Garden Club; and members of the Philomathic club.

She graduated from Anniston High School in 1966. She attended Jacksonville State University where she obtained her Masters degree and a AA in education and later obtained a certification in counseling. She received many awards as an outstanding educator throughout her career. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church since she was a child, where she taught adult and youth Sunday School and served in various ways throughout her life. After retiring from education, she taught a Bible study for stay at home mothers throughout the county and enjoyed keeping her grandchildren.

She enjoyed her free time working with flowers, gardening, cooking, and being with her family and friends.

Because of her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she touched lives everywhere she went; from teaching at Noble Street Elementary, Golden Springs Elementary, and Oxford Middle to the stranger in the grocery store line, she always left her mark. She loved indiscriminately.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church, the Kiwanis Club of Anniston or the Big Oak Ranch.

Glenda and I were truly sisters in every way except by blood. She was my sister of the heart and she always will be. Her family is my family, too. I will miss her until I join her in Heaven. To her precious family, please know that my heart hurts with yours. I love you all.

David and family. I am sorry for the loss or your beautiful and sweet wife. I and my entire family loved Glenda as a true Christian friend. She had a heart of gold and was compassionate and understanding to the needs of others, a true friend. I know of your grief and the sorrow in your heart. She is in the arms of Jesus and singing of His glory. Bless her eternally.

Glenda was my girlfriend in the 3rd grade, at Woodstock school. (1958) As I grew older and moved away from Anniston I always knew that whoever could win her heart was going to one lucky fella. When Beth and I moved back to Anniston in 1983 we bumped into Glenda and her family at the goal post. She and David had created the most wonderful family and lived on a plane that we all aspire to achieve. Godspeed Glenda. You are indeed the best.

Oh, David, how my heart hurts & yet rejoices that Glenda is now where we as Christ Followers long to be. She's with her Lord Jesus, her dad, my parents, my brother Donald & Nina plus a host of others. "What a day that will be...!" Gone from us here on earth much too soon--yet through tears, rejoicing that she's not suffering anymore. Glenda truly showed us how to live. I only know right now, I can cry with you, precious family. Continue what Glenda would have you to do-Trust Jesus (Proverbs 3:5-6) -He will see you through until the day HE calls us all home. (John 14:1-3) Love & prayers!
